Set up your class in one minute
- Open the wheel and paste your class list into the Names box, one name per line. Or press Import names and drop in your spreadsheet or a photo of the register.
- Type the class name at the top, for example “Period 3”, open My classes and press Save as a class. Do this once for each class.
- Turn on No repeats under the Spin button. Each student comes off the wheel after their turn, and when everyone has had a turn you can start a new round with one click.
- Press the fullscreen button to show only the wheel on the projector or smartboard.
Your saved classes also appear in the group maker, so you never type a class list twice.
Ideas for using it in class
- Cold calling without the groans: students see the wheel is fair, and “No repeats” means nobody gets picked three times in a row.
- Presentation order: spin until the wheel is empty and the Picked tab gives you the full order.
- Lab partners and project groups: the group maker deals students out like cards, and “Shuffle again” makes a new mix.
- Transitions: put a 3-minute visual timer on the board for tidy-up or getting books out.
- Word games: spin the letter wheel for a starting letter, or use a custom wheel of vocabulary words.
- Classroom jobs: spin each Monday to hand out jobs, with your own list saved for next week.
Student privacy
There are no accounts and we never ask for student information. Class lists, saved classes and pick history are kept in your own browser on your device, not on our servers. The only time a list leaves your device is when you use AI import: the text (or photo) is sent to read the names, and it is not stored. You can switch AI off and the file is read on your device instead. We also count visits and button use as anonymous daily totals, with no names or lists. Details are on the privacy page.
Questions teachers ask
- Does it work on a smartboard or projector?
- Yes. Press fullscreen and the editing panel disappears, leaving a big wheel and a big winner name. Tap the wheel or press the space bar to spin.
- Will my class lists still be there tomorrow?
- Yes, on the same computer and browser. To use a list on another device, press Share link and open the link there.
- Can I stop the same student being picked twice?
- Turn on No repeats. Picked names come off the wheel; Put back or Start a new round brings them all back.
- Is it really random?
- Yes. The pick is made with your browser’s cryptographic random generator before the wheel turns. You can check it with the fairness test.
- Do I need to sign up or install anything?
- No. It is a free website that works in any modern browser, on laptops, tablets and phones.
